On the Issues

Don has had to work hard his entire life, and that’s just what he’ll do as our next State Senator.

    • Property Taxes – As a farmer and a small business owner, Don knows first hand the burden that our taxes place on working families. Don has spoken out on this issue in the past, advocating for lower property taxes as a member of the Gage County Property Tax Organization. Don will work to find bipartisan solutions to reduce our property taxes while ensuring that we are still funding vital services that our community relies on, such as education.
    • Public Schools – Don attended both a small country school and a larger high school in Wymore. Because of this experience, Don understands the need to strengthen Nebraskan schools of ALL sizes. Additionally, Don knows that the 4-year college track isn’t always what’s best for individuals or their families. Don supports strengthening technical/trade schools as they provide good-paying jobs and practical skills that are vital to the success of our community.
    • Growing our Economy – It’s a struggle for many Nebraska families to make ends meet. Don is not only a farmer, he is a “working two jobs provider.” Both he and his father made do by farming and working another job full-time. Even so, he wants a better life for his kids and yours. Don is committed to creating and attracting good-paying jobs by supporting small businesses so that our communities can grow and our working families can thrive.
    • Gun Control – Don is a proud gun-owner and believes that all law-abiding citizens have the right to bear arms as guaranteed by the Constitution. Don thinks that we should focus on mental health and education in order to keep the tragic events that happen across the country from happening in our hometowns.
    • Health Care – Don understands that the Affordable Care Act has many flaws that need to be fixed, but he believes that certain portions, such as protections for those with pre-existing conditions and the ability for children to stay on their parents’ insurance until they are 26, are vital. The ACA is a federal issue, but Don firmly believes that all Nebraskans deserve access to high quality, affordable health care. He will work to create state policy that makes this a reality.
    • Prison Reform – Our prisons are overcrowded, and the State is not doing enough to address the issue and keep the guards safe. We should be looking at ways to treat non-violent offenders through rehab programs while making sure those who pose the biggest threat to our community remain behind bars.
